We all know big money is corrupting our government. Agreeing on that is easy.
Finding solutions to #FightBigMoney and restoring a government "of, by, and for the people" is not so easy and will take time – but IS possible. NH Rebellion spent much time consulting with conservative and liberal reformers, advocacy groups, and candidates alike. We've looked to other US states, examined legislation pending in Congress, and heard from activists and concerned citizens around New Hampshire.
The result of all this is our We the People Agenda for Reform, a collection of the six core reforms contained in the national Fighting Big Money agenda that the President can champion with Congress and the states passing to stop Big Money corruption and restore an equal voice for all. Each of the following reforms has already received strong support from respected leaders in both political parties and certain presidential candidates. Now it's up to us to force these six reforms to the top of the political agenda in 2016.
1. EXPOSE SECRET DONORS & REQUIRE FULL TRANSPARENCY
We the People have a right to know who is buying our elections
2. BAN BRIBES FROM LOBBYISTS & GOVERNMENT CONTRACTORS
Our representatives must work for us, not big money interests
3. BAN SUPER PACS & OVERTURN CITIZENS UNITED
Elections must not be auctioned off to the highest bidder
4. ESTABLISH SMALL-DONOR, CITIZEN-FUNDED ELECTIONS
We must take back control of elections from big-money donors
5. END GERRYMANDERING & MODERNIZE VOTER REGISTRATION
Voters must choose the politicians, not the other way around
6. CLOSE LOOPHOLES & ENFORCE CAMPAIGN FINANCE LAWS
Our rights as equal citizens are worthless if not enforced
The debate does not end here. Turning these reforms into law at the state and federal level will take time.
